    Starting a private practice involves much more than seeing clients. Therapists need to manage bookings, documentation, payments, client communication, scheduling, and compliance, often while working alone.

    We spoke with Han Yang about his experience setting up and running his counselling practice with SafeTalk, and how automation has helped reduce administrative work so he can focus more on client care.

       1. When you started your counselling practice, what were the key things you needed to set up and manage from day one?

    One of the first things I did was to set up my SSM registration, bank account and website. While these steps took time, I concurrently prepared myself for operations by drafting my informed consent/case note templates, service offering & pricing, and deciding on my availabilities. By setting these up on Safetalk, a bulk of my administrative tasks were automated and taken off my shoulders upon launching my counselling practice.

       2. What made you decide to use SafeTalk when setting up your practice?

    I had done a trial of Safetalk while I was in the process of setting up my private practice. I was pleased with the user experience both from the perspective of therapist as well as client, in particular the intuitive-ness of user journeys and the level of automation that was built into the system. 

    I especially valued how it saves me a lot of time and effort with the administrative portion of my work, enabling me to focus more on my direct contact with clients as a counsellor, which is what I enjoy most.

       3. How do you currently use SafeTalk in your daily work (appointments, client management, notes, etc.)?

    I direct clients to my Safetalk booking link to schedule appointments for an initial consultation with me. I realize this journey is different from many other therapists and centres, but the system is flexible enough that I can customize the services to avail in my booking page. From time to time, clients may reach out to me manually to make a booking, which I can perform on my end. After the booking is made, notifications/reminders are sent to clients automatically.

    Once clients have decided to start counselling with me, I assign the necessary pre-session templates to the client with just a few clicks, and schedule the sessions which are synced to my Google calendar for easy tracking. With the payment feature built in, I can track payment made and have one source of truth for my accounting purposes. 

    After sessions, I can select the relevant template for specific sessions,where administrative details such as session no, time, venue, etc can be auto-populated, optimizing my time spent on documentation. 

       4. What has been the most helpful part of using SafeTalk while building your practice?

    Safetalk has played a major role in supporting my practice operationally across many domains including booking, availability, documentation, service customization, running online sessions, and managing payments. It would be hard to imagine doing all of these manually while having to attend to my clients as counsellor. For me, rather than one or two specific features, it is actually the whole combination of features packaged in one solution that makes it helpful and complete.

       5. If you were describing SafeTalk to another new therapist starting their practice, what would you say?

    I would definitely recommend Safetalk to other new therapists starting their practice, as it is an investment in your workflow that will save a significant amount of time (and money) in the long run.
